Our story

Started by two lifelong friends in 1982

Bourne Decorators has grown from a friendship into a family business, building what the founders always called a network of friendships within a client base spanning Guildford, Farnham, Winchester, Alton and the Surrey and Hampshire villages in between.

Jim has been in the trade since he was fifteen and in business since 1982, and holds City & Guilds up to Level 3 in Advanced Crafts. He is also certified to teach, and spent two years teaching decorating students at Guildford College.

His son Richie trained at Guildford College, is fully qualified and is now part of the business. Between them the firm covers traditional decorating skills and modern spray finishing, and the intention is to keep Bourne Decorators family run for the next generation.

A new kitchen finish without a new kitchen

Cabinet doors and drawer fronts come off, get prepared and sprayed in controlled coats, then go back on aligned and checked. Because we run the spraying setup ourselves, the finish is even and hard wearing rather than brushed on in situ.

    We look at your cabinets, discuss colours and finishes, and give a free, no obligation quote.

    Prep and mask

    Worktops, walls and appliances are masked off, doors and drawers are labelled and removed for spraying.

  3. 03

    Sand, prime and spray

    Surfaces are sanded and primed before specialist cabinet paint is sprayed in even coats for a smooth finish.

  4. 04

    Refit and final check

    Doors and drawers are rehung, aligned and checked, and the kitchen is left clean and ready to use.

Furniture, floors and fittings are covered before any work starts, dust sheets stay down throughout the job, and the space is left clean at the end of each day.

Can you match an existing paint colour?

Yes, existing colours can usually be matched, and we're also happy to talk through new colour options as part of the quote.

Do you take on commercial decorating work?

Yes. Bourne Decorators has worked on offices, hospitality venues, community buildings and a grade II listed hall, scheduling around opening hours to keep disruption to a minimum.

How far in advance do I need to book?

It varies with the season, but it's worth getting in touch as early as possible once you know roughly when you'd like the work done, so we can plan the job in around existing commitments.

Do you hang wallpaper as well as paint?

Yes, wallpapering is one of our core services, from a single feature wall to full room and mural installations. Walls are crosslined first so the paper goes onto a smooth, stable surface.
